New Wolfenstein Updates

The new Wolfenstein is due in August, coming as early as August 4th in some parts of the country. There are new updates to the site that include a facebook page and other goodies. Here is the new intro written from the site:

In Wolfenstein, you play the role of an elite OSA (Office of Secret Actions) Agent named B.J. Blazkowicz. During a mission on a Nazi Battleship known as the Tirpitz, B.J. stumbles upon an amulet that possesses a mysterious power (which you can see in the game’s opening cinematic below). Unsure of its potential danger, B.J. takes the amulet back to his superiors at the OSA who begin to analyze and uncover its secrets. OSA scientists find out that there are powerful crystals within the amulet that are only found in the German city of Isenstadt. The OSA sends B.J. to Isenstadt to rendezvous with a resistance group known as the Kreisau Circle, and put a stop to the Nazis evil plans.

Within Isenstadt, a man known as General Zetta is commanding the Nazi SS Paranormal Division to utilize a dark energy source known as the Black Sun. First, however, the Nazis must bypass a dimension known as the Veil, which serves as a bridge between our reality and this dark energy source. The more the Nazis explore the Veil, the more twisted and dangerous their experimentation becomes.

To combat these occult experiments, B.J. will find an amulet of his own, similar to the one he discovered on the Tirpitz. This amulet contains crystals that give him access to the Veil and its powers, making him the perfect weapon to combat the SS Paranormal. You are the only soldier capable of fighting against this dark and mysterious enemy, good luck!

Quake Wars developer signs on Guerrilla Games’ top level designer to fill same role on Bethesda-published multiplatform game

In May 2008, Splash Damage offered the initial clues on its first project since the well recieved PC edition of ETQW, saying that it had entered into a long term developement deal with Fallout 3 creators Bethesa Softworks. Since then, the London-based studio has been bulking up on industry talent, announcing in December that Fable II lead designer Paul Ham would take over as creative lead at the studio.

In March 2009, Splash Damage said that it has acquired yet one more industry heavyweight. The company announced that Killzone 2 lead level designer Neil Alphonso will fill the same role on the Bethesda-published game. Prior to his stint at Guerrilla Games, which shipped its hightly rated PlayStation 3 - exclusive shooter in  February, Alphonso served as an environment designer on Ubisoft’s original Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell and as a level designer on 3D Realms’ Duke Nukem Forever.

Very little is known about Bethesda and Splash Damage’s upcoming game. The project has been referred to only as a “AAA multiplatform title,” though neither a genre nor platform have been named. However, thus far, Splash Damage has built its name in the first-person shooter field, having been founded in 2001 by several members of the id Software mod-making community.

Splash Damage also noted today that since announcing its development deal with Bethesda, the studio has doubled in size. It is continuing to seek development talent in the roles of art, design, and programming.

Wolfenstein 2 Site now up

The new wolfenstein 2 website is up and running.  Also, OXM issue features the new wolfenstein 2 for xbox.  Still awaiting news on the release date for the PC MP version.

Here is the latest from Design Rampage:

There’s a lot of press kicking up for Wolfenstein lately, which is pretty much what I am up to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s really exciting to have this press out there and let everyone see what we’ve been up to lately at Raven, especially after having had the game under wraps for so long.

First, Spike TV aired a half-hour show, GameTrailers TV with Geoff Keighley, on Wolfenstein Friday night. That entire show is now available on GameTrailers.com if you missed it (It did air at 1 AM, so I am sure most people missed it). There is an exclusive trailer near the top of the show, an exclusive cinematic that shows one of the more horrific creatures we have in the game, a number of interviews with developers, and tons of in-game footage. Geoff got a chance to play the game himself and he seemed to enjoy it quite a bit, so it’s good to know we’re doing the right things. If you just want to see the new trailer, it’s available here.

Next, this month’s Official Xbox Magazine (April 2009) has Wolfenstein on the cover with the first hands-on. It should be on newsstands now, so go pick it up if you want to read up more on Wolfenstein. If you live outside of the United States, we are also on the cover of the UK OXM as well as a number of other magazine covers. We had an entire international media day in February, and got a chance to show off the game first hand to members of the press. It was really awesome to see their reactions and now their subsequent write-ups of what they saw.

Also, the official website launched and there is some media up there you can check out. Additionally id Software is twittering about Wolfenstein, so you can follow their tweets (Or whatever Stephen Colbert likes to call them) if you enjoy that sort of thing.

So now you know why I’ve been so busy lately. I hope you enjoy all the new Wolfenstein press and get a chance to check it out. Feel free to leave your impressions or thoughts (positive or negative) on this post. You won’t hurt my feelings - I read Kotaku comments. I’m used to it!
